Sophie's Bio

​

I moved to Los Angeles from London, England, in 1995 to work in the entertainment industry.  I enjoyed a busy career in film and documentary TV for many years.  With the transition into motherhood I decided to retrain into a profession which allowed me the flexibility I wanted as a working mum.  I went back to school to study clinical psychology and it became a second professional love of mine.

Since 2013 I have had a private practice in Los Angeles specializing in adult patients who are dealing with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, relationship issues, conflict, grief and complex trauma. I have also worked for 6 years with couples using emotionally focused therapy as my method.

I am a therapist whose approach is rooted in attachment science.  I am trained in emotionally focused couples therapy, internal family systems, mindful parenting, mindfulness based stress reduction, trauma informed care and have recently completed two levels of attachment focused EMDR.  I also have training in early childhood development from giants in the field such as Dan Seigal, Dr. Ed Tronick, Peter Fonagy, and Alicia Lieberman.

I ran mindful parenting groups at centers in Los Angeles for many years; I ran workshops and trained associate MFT’s in mindful parenting.  During this time, as a result of hours and hours of observation, I learned about the relationship between parents and children, the importance of attachment, how it can influence and dictate our relationships later in life, impacting us in our families, romantic relationships, friendships and professional relationships.

I believe that at the heart of being human is our need for connection.  If this is corrupted, ignored or minimized we become unstable, unsafe, angry, frightened and we then live from those places.
